Ecosystem Development Assistance Program to Accelerate Time-to-Market in CE Industry
ARLINGTON, VA, August 15, 2011 - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and Global Inventures today announced the launch of a new Ecosystem Development Assistance (EDA) program designed to help accelerate time-to-market for technologies in the consumer electronics (CE) industry. This program leverages the power of more than 2,000 CEA member companies to support the launch and development of innovative new tech products and services.
The EDA program lowers the barrier for the creation of collaboration groups, alliances and consortia by companies to work on areas of common interest and promote the adoption of industry standards. The collaboration groups and alliances will provide space to incubate ideas and initiatives, and allow companies to finalize new technologies for market introduction. The EDA program will also support collaboration beyond the initial idea through other CEA activities such as standards development, interoperability testing, logo services, research, events, the International CES and consumer education.
"The consumer technology industry constantly reinvents itself and brings new offerings to consumers in the form of apps, devices, networking technologies and content services," said Brian Markwalter, CEA's senior vice president of research and standards. "These offerings require collaboration with a wide range of players, and to facilitate such collaboration, CEA is uniquely positioned as the hub of the consumer electronics industry connecting companies for success."
CEA is teaming with Global Inventures of San Ramon, Calif., a worldwide leader in independent alliance creation and management, to assist groups who are interested in forming more structured entities. Inventures has a long history of providing incubation, structure and management support for a broad range of industry initiatives and collaborative ecosystems in order to drive commercial realization and proliferation of end products and services based on ecosystem solutions.
"Over the years we've seen that the 'build it and they will come' approach to market adoption of a new technology just won't work," said Deepak Kamlani, founder and CEO of Inventures. "With the Ecosystem Development Assistance Program and our partnership with CEA, our intent is to help fast track the process of creating the type of collaborative environment necessary for accelerating market acceptance of new consumer electronics technologies."
"CEA's mission is to grow the consumer electronics industry, and we constantly strive to help our member companies grow their business with various programs," Markwalter continued. "The EDA program is an important tool available to companies to create thriving product ecosystems."
